Hello♪My name is Kana. I am from Mie-ken, where the G8 summit is going to be held next year.
After graduating from college, I continued onto graduate school where I did research on international sociology. My dissertation was on Japanese food culture, so I am very knowledgeable about food. During my school days, I studied alongside more international students than Japanese students, so I had the opportunity to learn new things in an international environment every day. I’ve always loved traveling, so I have visited over 15 countries. It is said that you don’t realize what’s great about your own country until you travel abroad, and I am one of those people. My travels and the things I have been taught by my international student friends have helped me see the beauty in Japanese culture.

I have been practicing integral parts of Japanese culture such as flower arrangement, tea ceremony, and kimono wearing since I was about 20 years old. Even now, I am still studying, but there is a teacher/student system when it comes to tea and flowers, which makes it hard for people to learn casually. Japanese cultural practices require students to study under their teacher for decades. This system is wonderful in many ways, but it does means that it takes several decades to truly understand the art form.

I believe that Japan’s culture is truly profound and the more you learn about it, the more fun and interesting it gets. I hope to share the beauty of our culture with Japanese people who are about to go abroad, non-Japanese who are interested in Japanese culture, or Japanese people who would simply like to learn more about their own culture in depth. I will create fun lessons that will help you practice the art in real life.
Thank you very much.
