Hello! Thank you for visiting my profile page. My name is Kirsten, and I live in the beautiful state of Washington in the U.S. I love teaching and I love Japan, so Cafetalk is the perfect space for me to combine these interests!
I have a Master's in Teaching and have taught English professionally for over 15 years. Currently I teach ESL at a community college where I work with international students from primarily Asian countries, including Japan. I teach oral communication, grammar, reading, writing and pronunciation classes. I have also taught young children and have a 9-year-old whom I'm teaching some Japanese!
I studied Japanese and lived in Japan for many years, and I have a deep appreciation for Japanese language and culture. In some ways I feel that I am more Japanese than American! I spent most of my years in Kyoto, one of the most fascinating and beautiful cities in the world.
I practice voluntary simplicity, and so my interests tend toward the simple and sustainable. I love to knit and sew, hike, walk my dog through the park, ride bikes with my family, shop at the farmer's market, eat dark chocolate and sip red wine.
I would love to share my life, skills, and experiences with you here. I look forward to meeting you!
